How can I be sure that my item is genuine?

Our vintage jewellery has been previously worn, in some case for over one hundred years. This means that items are not pristine and many will show some signs of wear. This does not take away from how beautiful these pieces are and the items we sell are in excellent wearable condition. We take time to ensure that our photos and descriptions give a real feel for each piece.

We complete a number of checks before listing an item for sale and these include:

Examining the style and materials of the item, which can give an indication of the age of the item.

Identifying hallmarks. Where hallmarks exist they may identify a country or city where the item was assayed, which metals were used (ie Gold, Silver, Platinum), the purity of the metal (ie 925 Sterling Silver or 18ct Gold) and the date the item was assayed. Not all items are hallmarked and in these cases we conduct tests to identify whether an item is silver, 9ct, 14ct, 18ct gold, platinum or base metal.

Confirming the gemstones within the item, where applicable. We carry out a visual examination (with a loupe) and various other tests to identify the type of gemstone.

Checking for any signs of wear to the item prior to sale. We always clearly state any signs of wear in the item description.

Using the Website

How and why should I register an account?
Registration is not obligatory to explore and shop the site. However, creating an account gives you easy access to orders you have placed with us, and the ability to save your personal and payment information for faster check-out.

What should I do if I forget my password?
Should you forget your password, simply select the account icon at the top of the page, and select ‘Forgot Your Password?’ within the password field on the login page. Enter your email address, click ‘Submit’, and we’ll send you a link to change your password.

Products & Services

Is the product imagery online accurate?
All photographs are taken under controlled lighting conditions in order to optimise product detail. All photos are enlarged to show detail. No stones are enhanced digitally. However, the display of product colours depends significantly on the user’s computer monitor and we cannot guarantee the level of accuracy achieved on every individual user’s monitor.

Are gift cards available for purchase online?
Yes, we offer gift cards to use online. They are available in £20, £50, £100, £250 or £500 denominations. Gift cards expire 12 months after the purchase date.

Can you value my jewellery for me?
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer valuations of jewellery.

Can you resize a ring for me?
No, although the majority of our rings are eligible for re-sizing we do not offer this service. We always recommend that you visit a reputable local jeweller following receipt of the ring to ensure an accurate resize. Please note that rings that have been resized are no longer eligible for a refund.

We are happy to give our expert opinion on whether a specific ring can be sized or not, and how many sizes it can be altered.

Placing an Order

Do you have a shop I can visit?
We are an online store and therefore we are unable to offer in-person appointments, however, please contact us to arrange a Zoom viewing appointment by emailing us. For security reasons, our jewellery is not kept on the premises. Should you wish to view any item(s), please provide at minimum of 24 hours notice to enable us to collect from our secure vault.

Can I place an order over the phone?

No, unfortunately we are currently unable to process orders and payments over the phone.

Can you reserve an item for me?

Yes. We are happy to hold items of over £250 in value in reserve for up to 3 months. To reserve an item we take an upfront, non-refundable deposit of 25%.  You decide when to pay the remaining balance anytime within 3 months and we'll ship your item immediately afterwards.  If  you would like to reserve an item then please email us at hello@vintagejewellerycompany.co.uk

Do you offer credit?
We now offer the option to purchase through Klarna- which gives the option of paying or your item through three monthly instalments

 

How is my payment secured?
All card payments are processed through Squarespace Payments (powered by Stripe) which keeps your details safe and secure. We do not have access to your Credit or Debit card details.

If you choose to pay with PayPal then you can read about their security here in their User Agreement.

What happens to my personal information?
To process your order we are privy to some of your personal information such as your name, address, telephone number and email address. We will only use this information to ensure your item is delivered safely to your door and will never share it with a third parties.
